Ekklesia-The Apostolic Pattern

The Greek word ekklesia () is from two words: ek, out of, and klesis, a calling. In addition to being used of an assembly, congregation, and the community of Israel, in the New Testament it is especially used of an assembly of Christians – a church.

What is the Apostolic Pattern?

Should we follow it?

Paul taught that the Apostolic Pattern should be followed.

1 Corinthians11:1

Imitate me as I imitate Christ.

1 Corinthians11:2

I Praise You that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you.

Paul expressed gratitude for the obedience of the “Church”. This section of scripture is dealing with issues for the body not only one church.

Philippians 4:9

The things that you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of Peace will be with you.

  • Things that you learned.
  • Things you received.
  • Things you heard.
  • Things you saw in me.

Do these things.

A commandment for the church and the blessing of God will come upon you.

2 Thessalonians 2:15

Look at these points

  • Brethren
  • Stand fast
  • Hold
  • The traditions
  • You were taught
  • By word spoken
  • Or Epistle written

The church has a pattern that must be followed for true Kingdom progression.

Stand hold and teach!!

2 Thessalonians 3:6

Withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition wish you received from us.

2 Thessalonians 3:7

For you know how you ought to follow us.

Paul told Timothy (1 Timothy 1:3-4) teach no other doctrine.

2 Timothy 2:2

Teach what you have learned to faithful men who will teach others also.

We must discern the traditions of men from the Apostolic and adhere to the practices that are to be carried forth in our church.

  • The Lord’s Supper taken weekly.
  • Interactory open church meetings.
  • Edification, Encouragement, and Discipleship.
  • Church government elder led
  • Local trained leaders.
  • Church eldership make no hiarchy, servant leadership.
  • House churches. (smaller bodies)
  • Meeting regularly.
  • Baptism necessary.
  • Separation of church and state.
  • Active body.
  • Children present in meetings.
  • Community based church—Daily fellowship.
  • Equipping thru Five-Fold

We need to explore these fuller.
